Your Professional Experience.Post number 6 in a series designed to help you write your own resume and put your skills and accomplishments in a format that will appeal to all those strangers out there who will be viewing your resume.

For most the best strategy is to present your experience in reverse chronological order. We need to see your current or last position on the first page.List the name of the company followed by the city and stateCantigny Group, Inc., Chicago, ILThen list the years. I do not include the months as it looks too busy.Cantigny Group, Inc., Chicago, IL 2000 to PresentUnder the company information you want to give a description unless the company is so well known that a description is redundant. No more than 2 lines/Next list your job title: Executive DirectorUnder the title give the reader a description of your responsibilities in paragraph form. Again, do not make this too wordy. You want to present the scope of your responsibilities including budgets, direct reports, overall duties and tasks.Once you have given the reader your responsibilities you now want to move from tasks to accomplishments. What are some of your "stories"? What was the situation----what did you do to fix or resolve----what was the result? This is the basic format. The next resume post will discuss how to present this information in a way that will allow the reader to respond positively to you.For a free review of your resume and to discuss your job search goals email me at Gary@GaryLouisNelson.com
