I just reviewed the resume of a first-year, first-time, job-seeking Teacher. The resume had been written with the help of someone at the University designated to work with graduates and help them craft their resumes.

It is totally useless and my client has not only not received one interview but in fact has received many rejections. The resume lacks clarity, focus, career specific verbiage and looks like it would generically apply to anyone. There is nothing on it to make a Principal pick up the phone and make a call.Ask yourself after every line in your resume: "So what? What does this show that I know and am able to do?"You need to show engagement with students and families in teaching and learning experiences. What teaching-specific technology tools do you utilize? In any resume hiring authorities need to see specifics: Guided Reading, Writer’s Workshop, Teaching Six Traits, Comprehension Strategies, Assessments, Science Inquiry, Problem-Based Learning, Creative Thinking, Core Curriculum etc.Is your resume working for or against you?I am here to help.
